Our Story

A Family Vision, Brought to Life

Maleny Country Estate is, at its heart, a family story.

What began as a search for the perfect property became something far more meaningful – a place to create, restore and share. Since purchasing the estate in 2018, Michael and Victoria have poured themselves into reimagining what this special pocket of the hinterland could become.

Drawn to its natural beauty, incredible stonework and rich character, they felt both a connection to the land and a responsibility to honour it – to bring new life to a place that had long been a destination for escape.

Joined by Michael’s daughter Amanda in 2020, the family has worked together to thoughtfully shape the estate into what it is today: a place designed for connection, celebration and slowing down.

A Legacy of Craft and Care

Long before its current chapter, the estate was known as Solothurn Rural Resort – a vision brought to life by Swiss craftsman Albert Murer.

Inspired by his alpine heritage, Albert transformed the land with enduring stonework, timber features and carefully positioned cottages and chalets. Towering pines, winding pathways and the charming St Albertus Chapel became part of a landscape designed to feel both grounded and transportive.

“Albert turned this place into his Swiss dream – a place that reminded him of his homeland in Europe.”

Today, that vision lives on – not as something to be replaced, but something to be respected and evolved.

Thoughtfully Restored, Naturally Inspired

Every restoration across the estate has been approached with intention.

From recycled and reclaimed materials to the preservation of original features, each space has been carefully considered to maintain the character and charm that make this place so unique. Interiors are layered with warmth and comfort, while still feeling connected to the surrounding landscape.

Outdoor spaces have been designed to make the most of the estate’s sweeping views — creating intimate places to gather, pause and take it all in. Firepits, gardens and quiet nooks invite a slower pace, where moments are shared and time feels less hurried.

A Place to Gather and Reconnect

From the beginning, the vision has been simple – to create a place where people can come together.

Whether for a wedding, a weekend away, or time spent with family and friends, Maleny Country Estate is designed to foster connection. It’s a place where celebrations feel immersive, and everyday moments feel just a little more special.

“We saw the opportunity to create a really special place – for weddings, and for people to come together and reconnect.”

A Love for the Land

A deep respect for the land underpins everything we do.

Over 7,000 trees and plants have been introduced across the 185-acre property, enhancing the natural landscape and creating diverse habitats for local wildlife. The gardens continue to evolve with the seasons, inviting guests to explore, observe and experience the beauty of the hinterland.

As custodians of this land, our role is to nurture and protect it – ensuring it can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Looking Ahead

Today, Maleny Country Estate continues to evolve in the hands of Michael, Victoria and Amanda.

With every detail, every restoration and every guest experience, their vision remains the same – to create something meaningful, considered and lasting.

A place that feels special the moment you arrive, and stays with you long after you leave.
